My Sheltering Tree

I believe in friendship.

That sounds like a silly thing to believe in. It's supposed to be one of those things that just is, right?

Not always. Not necessarily.

In my short years on this little planet, I've seen and done enough to know that friendship is something that goes far beyond the surface.

It's more than the people I shop with. Or the people I talk with.

Friends are just an easy word for what should really be there... community.

So I guess I should say, I believe in community.

My community is a hodge-podge, which is probably why I love it so much, (seeing as how sameness gets boring after awhile).

See their beautiful faces?

Meet (top l-r, bottom l-r) Kristen, Nikki, Season, Rhoda, Rebekah, Jamie and Katy. Just some of the women I've cried with, laughed with, fought with, won with, and continue to call journey-mates for this portion of the trail.

There are more, and I hope to share some of their stories here too. Each one of these ladies have taught me something about faith, loyalty, love, grace, justice, mercy, cooking, beauty, motherhood, traveling ... and other things, like how to get a spray tan.

This new series on friendship will feature these girls. Bits of their stories. Pieces of their hearts.

I want to share some community with you, and maybe inspire you to let your friendships redefine themselves a bit. Allow the weaving of the tapestry go from my heart, to your heart and through the ones of those around you.

Friendship is a sheltering tree.
