When I Give Myself 10 Minutes to Blog

It's Friday and so far today my conversations have consisted of the following:

M: "Mom, I want to pour the popcorn."
Me: "Just scoop it."
M: "Ugh. But I want to pour it."
Me: "Then use your bowl."
M: "But I want the cup."
Me: "Then scoop it."
M: "Ugh. You do it."
(15 minutes later)
M: "You haven't done it yet!!"
Me: "I'm.. I... I will."
M: "You forgot!"
Me: "Sorry."
M: "Look, I'll do it! I'm scooping!"

So. That being said, here's a smattering of thoughts for this Friday afternoon.

1. Tomorrow we rest, and I can finally give myself some free time to read this:

2. I will sit and write another song this weekend. They're at the forefront of my thoughts these days, and I must get them out. To think, obsess, wonder, question and feel as much as I do, songs better be written.

3. My daughter's (apparently new) sleep schedule gives me two quiet hours in the morning to myself. This is a beautiful thing. To thank her, I will make her french toast and pancakes, maybe at the same time.

4. I have to do my taxes. And by have to, I mean... I have to. It's almost March and I can almost hear the sound of the IRS barrelling toward me. Yes, giant scary organization, I know. I know.

5. I have dreams of spring, a fire escape garden, outdoor bbqs, bicycle rides, warm starry nights and camping. Come, sunshine, come.

6. I can't remember the last time I had a haircut. All my hairstyling-type friends just winced and my split ends mocked me when I said that.

7. I love this song. And this music video. It makes me think of my sister-in-law who can actually dance like this. She showed me once at my parent's house. I immediately knew my brother should marry her because it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. And then she did. So we're good.

8. Be close to the ones you love. In heart. In word. In presence. In prayer. When in doubt, choose love. I can't stop thinking of this and more and more I'm amazed how many of us want, need, crave the same thing. Maybe if we stopped looking for it for ourselves, and started giving it to others, we'd find God reflected in everything we do.

9. This morning, Madeleine and I snuggled under the comforter on my bed and read from the Jesus Storybook Bible. This today made us both smile from ear to ear: "No, the Bible isn't a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a Story. It's an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It's a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne — everything — to rescue the one he loves. It's like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life! You see, the best thing about this Story is — it's true."

Happy weekending friends!
